It has been beautiful weather for outside activities, but rain is needed. At least 22,000 Solidarity workers struck Tuesday to protest food shortages despite please from union moratorium pending talks with Poland’s Communist regime. Miss Beth Owens didn’t become Miss Columbus USA, but she represented the Town of Columbus very well. A truck trying to make the turn across the railroad track, backed Continued On Back Page New Officers For TYG The Tryon Youth Group elected new officers at their meeting Sunday, Oct. 11 in the Tryon Congregational Church. The new officers for 1981-82 are: Karen Rindge and Marlene Lair, co presidents, and Alison Meares, Sec.-Tres. Karen and Alison are seniors and Marlene a junior at Tryon High School. At the meeting the young people also enjoyed sharing the experiences of their recent retreat to Bear Walla, and making plans for upcoming activities. The Tryon Youth Group is an organization for 9th thru 12th graders of the Polk County area. It is sponsored by the Interchurch Youth Advisory Board, which is composed of representatives from area churches. Parade Friday The Tryon High School Homecoming Parade will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. Tryon High School will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. and the Elementary School will be dismissed at the regular time. Kutts In Autumn Recital The Hendersonville Friends of Chamber Music will present an “Autumn Recital” Sunday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Technical College Auditorium. Presented will be the Cresta Azul Chamber Players (Ralph Congdon, violin; Judith Kutt, cello; Peter Kutt, piano; Virginia Tillotson, clarinet). The program will include Beethoven Trio, Opus 11 for clarinet, cello and piano; Brahms Trio, Opus 8, for violin, cello and piano; as well as pieces by Bartok, Cassado and Finzi. John Janulis has returned to Great Lakes Naval Base after visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Janulis of Tryon. A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Nicholson (Sandra Parker) of Lynn are parents of a daughter, Melissa LeAnn, born Oct. 9th at Spartanburg General Hospital. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Leland Parker of Lynn. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Edgar S. Nicholson of Inman and the paternal great- grandmother is Mrs. Sarah Seay of Spartanburg. Open House For Landrum 7th Graders On Tuesday, Oct. 20th at 7:30 p.m. the Student Council at Landrum High School is sponsoring an open house for 7th grade students and their parents in the school cafeteria. Joyce Miller from USC-S will speak on “Study Skills.” Junior High School teachers will be present to meet parents of seventh grade students. MEN’S BRIDGE Results of the match played by the Tryon Men’s Bridge Club on October 13 were as follows: 1st. Paul Paulsell with Roland Towle; 2nd.
